Welcome to Bude Canoe Club's new Web Site. Please
use the links on the left hand navigation pane to access information
on the Club. In particular, the Forum pages are where you'll find all
the updated news items and the Gallery for the latest photos.
To start, some FAQs:
Who are we?
As the name implies, a Canoe Club based in Bude, North Cornwall, UK
What are we?
A voluntary run club affiliated to the British Canoe Union with a main
objective to "....help and inspire people go canoeing...".
Run by a Committee governed by the BCU suggested Constitution and with
approximately 40 active members.
What do we do?
Paddling, in all its various forms and varieties. If it can float
- we'll paddle it. However, our main activities are surf
kayaking, recreational paddling, canoe polo, plus we try and paddle the odd
river or two whenever there's sufficient water.
When & Where do we paddle?
We meet every Wednesday night throughout the year (except Christmas
Day, well, unless its really good surf and then we'd probably catch a quick
pre-dinner paddle). During the bleak winter months we retract to
the comfort of the local indoor pool (Holsworthy Leisure Centre) to practice
our rolling skills, run introductory sessions and enjoy some fast action and great
team spirit with a bit of kayak polo.
During the summer we meet at Summerleaze Beach Car Park and dependent upon
conditions will either take in some surf, or meander down (or up) the coast
for a spot of 'rock-hopping'
and seal spotting, and if the weather's foul (or if there's a polo comp'
coming up), then we dodge the fishermen on the canal and throw a ball
about.
In additional to the Wednesday night sessions, we also run or participate
in other events such as river trips, surf competitions, polo
competitions, and the occasional social event (Beach BBQs, Annual
Dinner...in addition the compulsory after session beer every Wednesday).
